Bernat Felted Yarn

A new yarn that Bernat released right as summer transitioned into autumn and I just HAD to grab it and test it out because it looked so cozy. Fair warning, this is 100% a RAVE review.

Hi everyone!

At my weekly walk through Michael’s, a yarn I had never seen before caught my eye. Bernat Felted was sitting on the shelf and it looked so cozy that I decided I had to give it a try.

I grabbed two balls and excitedly got to work on designing a pattern to use with this yarn. The creation that came from it is my Starry Night Bat Amigurumi.

Bernat Felted yarn is so new that Yarnspirations doesn’t even have a review on their website yet. I guess you’re in luck that I decided to!

Starry Night Bat

Normally I don’t enjoy working with textured yarns, but I was pleasantly surprised with my experience and would gladly purchase and use this yarn again. Let me tell you why.

What is Bernat Felted Yarn?

Bernat Felted is a textured yarn made from a blend of Acrylic, Wool, and Nylon with brushed plies. It is a super bulky yarn (size 6) and is machine wash and dryable.

Colour:

Bernat Felted has 16 shades to choose from. The colours are mostly muted, earthy tones. However, there are a few deeper shades like purple, red, and yellow. The colour palette that Bernat Felted has is perfect for any autumn project!

Feel:

Although it initially looks like it would be rough to the touch, I discovered Bernat Felted feels wonderfully soft. I’ve only made my starry night bat so far, but I bet it would make a lovely scarf or more.

Ease of Use:

When it comes to crocheting with textured yarns, they are notoriously difficult to work with. Stitches are difficult to see and counts can easily be off. With Bernat Felted, that wasn’t a worry. I usually hate working with textured yarns, but I would work with this all day long.

Skill Level:

As easy as Bernat Felted is to work with, I would still recommend you be at an intermediate level before you picking it up.

My final verdict is 10 out of 10. Bernat Felted was lovely to use to crochet amigurumi. I’d ultimately love some more colour choices down the road, but otherwise, for a textured yarn this was great. Not to mention it is machine washable and dryable. Even better!

Don’t forget to grab some for yourself and crochet some cute bat friends!
